OB-1 vs Cursor
Cursor is a complete AI-first IDE — a VS Code fork with inline tab completion, a large frontier-model pool, and Bugbot code review. OB-1 is a terminal agent, not an IDE. The sharpest practical difference is how spending ends: Cursor's paid plans include an allowance and then bill on-demand usage in arrears, while OB-1's hosted plans are prepaid and stop at the cap.
Choose OB-1 when you live in a terminal, want an ad-free free path you can point at your own endpoints, and want hosted spend fixed in advance.
Choose Cursor when you want a full IDE with inline tab completion, a broad frontier-model pool, and Bugbot review, and you are comfortable with usage billed on demand above the included allowance.
| Question | OB-1 | Cursor |
|---|---|---|
| Product shape | Terminal CLI you add to any editor or workflow | A full IDE (a VS Code fork) — tab completion and inline editing are a genuine strength |
| Free tier | Free built-in model router; no account, no card | Hobby plan: free, no credit card, with limited Agent requests |
| Paid plans | Starter $9, Pro $49, Max $99 per month in prepaid credits | Pro $20/mo, Pro+ $60/mo, Ultra $200/mo, plus Teams and Enterprise |
| What happens at the limit | Hosted requests stop until the next cycle — plans are hard-capped, so you cannot wake up to surprise overages | Included usage is followed by on-demand usage, billed in arrears |
| Provider choice | Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — OpenRouter, Groq, Gemini, or a custom URL | A managed pool of frontier models selected by Cursor |
| Local models | Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, vLLM, custom | Not a documented feature of the published plans |
| Code review | Refute-review and verified escalation inside the agent loop | Bugbot, billed as usage rather than a flat inclusion |
| License posture | Apache-2.0 CLI | Proprietary |
Practical read
- Cursor's IDE is genuinely better at what an IDE does — inline completion, multi-file editing in a real editor UI. OB-1 is not trying to replace it, and running both is a reasonable setup.
- For budgeting, the difference that matters is the tail: Cursor meters on-demand usage above the plan allowance and bills it in arrears, whereas OB-1's hosted credits are prepaid with no overage path.
- Cursor revised its individual and team pricing more than once during 2026, so check the current pricing page before comparing figures.
